Pastor Victor W. Skaggs

Victor W. Skaggs, of Longmont, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Brookdale Longmont. He was 98.

Victor was born October 5, 1918, in Plainfield, N.J., to James and Hettie (Whitney) Skaggs.

On June 25, 1939, Victor married Ardale Coon in DeRuyter, NY. After their marriage, he continued his education at Salem College in Salem, WV, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in 1940. Victor then earned a Bachelor’s in Divinity from Alfred University School of Theology in 1943. He then worked toward his Master’s Degree in Divinity at Alfred University and other seminaries.

He was ordained in October 1944 in Piscataway NJ. Throughout his life, Victor worked as a Pastor for the Seventh Day Baptist denomination, leading ministries at various locations throughout the country. He was also the Dean of the center of Ministerial education for the Seventh Day Baptist denomination.  Victor moved from Wampsville, NY, to Longmont in January 1990 and was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Boulder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardale Skaggs; brothers, Allison Skaggs and J. Leland Skaggs; sisters, Evelyn Camenga and Margaret Bond; and granddaughter, Stephanie Sholtz.

Victor is survived by his son, Patrick (Debbie) Skaggs of Longmont; daughters, Nina (Joe) Karhnak of Oneida, N.Y., Janice (Keith) Kenyon of St. Joseph, M.I., and Lynne (Keith) Severance of Frederick, CO; six grandchildren, Leticia Wicks, Deborah Rod, Joseph Balog, Jeremy Balog, Amy Stephan and Erin Skaggs; ten great-grandchildren, Christopher Wicks, Nathan Wicks, Daniel Wicks, Katie Wicks, Jessica Rod, Cassandra Rod, Nicodemus Rod, Adalia Stephan, Hailey Fahrenbruch and Connor Fahrenbruch; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Boulder, 6710 Arapahoe Road, Boulder, CO, 80303, with Rev. Steve Osborn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Suncrest Hospice or Seventh Day Baptist Church of Boulder. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
