TANNEY —
Donna Jeanne Spooner Tanney passed
away Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Presbyterian Home,
after a brief illness. She was 12 days short of her 91st
birthday.
The daughter of Jean and Verah Honer Spooner, Donna was
born July 31, 1924, in New Hartford, NY, where she spent her
early childhood. Most of her life, however, was spent in Brook-
field, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Tan-
ney; her parents; and three brothers, Robert, William and Mac
Spooner. She is survived by six children, James Elliott
(Sharon), Thomas Elliott (Barbara), Debra Lattimer (Roger),
Nancy Elliott (Jim), Douglas Elliott (Terry) and Daniel Lum; as
well as 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her stepchildren (Charlie's seven children),
many of whom have continued their contact with and caring
for her.
Donna was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in
Brookfield, NY, where she enjoyed teaching Sabbath School
and performing special music. She labored over distant family
history, to the beginnings of the Town of Brookfield — to author
a book of local interest, The Eternal Hills. Donna and Charlie
owned and operated “The Gates Hill Homestead,” an area fa-
vorite for sleigh and stagecoach rides. She was also very ac-
tive in the Brookfield Historical Society and the Travellers Club
in Waterville. In recent decades, her passion was genealogical
research with a focus on the early families of Brookfield Town-
ship. She was very proud of the part she played in acquiring
an historical plaque for Mertilla Miner in the township.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, July 23, at the
Brookfield First Baptist Church. Interment was immediately
following the service at the Brookfield Cemetery.
NIEUKIRK —
Barbara Lee Nieukirk, 66, of Shiloh passed
away peacefully at Cooper Hospital/University Medical
Center in Camden, NJ, on Tuesday morning, September
22, 2015.
Barbara was born in Mesquite, TX, and was the daughter of
the late Archie and Anna Brittain Foster. For the past 35 years,
she was the wife of William B. Nieukirk. A resident of Shiloh
for the past few years, Barbara Lee was raised in Texas and
had also lived in Florida, Colorado and Millville, NJ.
A licensed real estate broker and agent, Barbara Lee was
the former owner of Southern Realty in Millville and most re-
cently was a broker with Keller – Williams Realty in Millville.
Barbara Lee enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading, and
was an excellent piano player. She was a member of the SDB
Church of Shiloh, NJ, and was a member of the choir. She was
very active in the church’s music programs including the
Gospel Music Festival held each summer for the last seven
years.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by two
children, Amy Nieukirk of FL and William Nieukirk and his wife
Elizabeth of OH; two granddaughters, Addie and Elise
Nieukirk; one sister, Patsy Goforth and her husband Bobby of
TX; and two nieces, Theresa and Misty.
Relatives and friends attended the memorial service at the
SDB Church of Shiloh, East Avenue in Shiloh on September
27th. The interment took place privately. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions are suggested to the Seventh Day
Baptist Church of Shiloh, c/o Steve Moncrief, 385 Jericho Rd.,
Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
HOFF —
Susan K. (Loofboro) Hoff, age 68, of Milton,
WI, passed away September 28, 2015, after a coura-
geous battle with cancer.
Sue was a faithful member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
Church. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, sister and
friend, always putting others before herself. She had the most
generous, loving heart and touched many lives with her pres-
ence. Susan was born June 1, 1947, in Edgerton, WI, to Carroll
and Iva Belle Loofboro. She graduated from Milton High
School in the class of 1965. Sue married her loving husband of
49 years, LeRoy S. Hoff, on April 23, 1966. She worked for
Milton College, Badgerland Harvestore, and The Undercover
Shop. There was a special place in Sue’s heart for individuals
with an intellectual disability and Sue will be especially re-
membered for her volunteerism with Special Olympics. Start-
ing out as a supportive volunteer, she soon became Agency
Manager of Janesville 7-02, for almost a decade. Her legacy is
carried on through the athletes and volunteers in the area.
Sue loved to love on people and served with a servant’s heart
in the Milton SDB Church.
Susan is survived by her husband, LeRoy Hoff; a daughter,
Debbie Hoff; a son, Kevin Hoff; sisters, Linda Gilmore and Lori
(Bob) Ball; brothers: Warren (Arleen) Loofboro, Neil (Linda)
Loofboro, Rodney (Yvonne) Loofboro, LeRoy (Janette) Loof-
boro, Robert Loofboro, and Alan (Donna) Loofboro; numerous
nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews. Sue was
preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Iva Belle Loof-
boro; and sister, Phyllis Loofboro.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 2, 2015, at
the SEVENTH DAY BAPTIST CHURCH with Pastor Nathan
Crandall officiating. Burial will be in Milton Junction Cemetery.
